Today, we got an email… It was one of those emails that you just have no idea is about to arrive and when it does it shakes your world. It was from an uncle
and was just two sentences long. In these two sentences, my uncle communicated that he had a friend that might looking for a new home for his boat (Ranger 28) – for somewhere between free and cheap. The kicker.. the boat is in the Midwest, not just the Midwest though, Door County – the beautiful thumb in our mitten of a state.
The boat is a Ranger 28. She is a Gary Mull design and part of the first batch of Racer-Cruiser in a long-ish lines of just Racers. 28 feet is on the bottom end of what we are considering, but the price is *(sounds) right and our mentor for knowledge-from-experience boat advice gave her the thumbs up. We are going to do a bit more research and give the owner a call in an hour or so.
Oh, forgot to mention.. The boat has a full new set of sails, made at my uncle’s sail loft in Sturgeon Bay, WI – Dorsal Sails and Canvas, another dozen odd sails beyond that, new winches, a new Kubota Diesel engine (apparently this was a $13k install *wow*) and has been wintered in indoor storage most/all of its life. Fingers crossed…
By the way, yes, all the uncles mentioned here the same uncle;) Sorry for any confusion. Check him out at the above link.
